A small part of the Artistic Genus display at the Edmonds Windermere

Yesterday the members of Artistic Genus hung a display of framed prints at the downtown Edmonds Windermere office. Our artwork will be on display in the lobby through the month of April, with a special focus on the regular third Thursday artwalk. That night we’ll bring in even more artwork, prints and notecards and will stay to chat and share snacks with artwalk visitors.

In March nearly twenty downtown businesses participated in the event. I had a great time strolling through town, chatting with artists and checking out their work, and I’m looking forward to participating this month!

2014 Northwest Flower and Garden Show

Today I went to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show, an annual event held in the Washington State Convention Center just upstairs from the Drawing on Nature exhibit I’ve mentioned earlier. The Flower and Garden Show is an annual gardening extravaganza running five days and featuring elaborate display gardens, seminars and a huge garden-related marketplace. I braved the jaw-dropping Seahawk parade crowds (Go Hawks! etc.) to get to the garden show today since I had plans already in place. The bus was full to overflowing but the show was great. Here are some photos of the display gardens:

Most of the display gardens featured elaborate garden art, and giant rocks, patios and other structures aren’t unusual. I fell in love with this towering metal vase. (If I had a place to put it and the disposable income I could have purchased one like it in the marketplace.)

The same garden had this lovely water feature, a crystal clear pool filled by a small stream and waterfall. The exhibitors have only a few days to install these gardens and it’s amazing what they come up and can pull off.

I’m only showing photos from a couple of the gardens here. I urge you to visit yourself if you’d enjoy a lungful of floral scents and and eyeful of summer color. If you do go, which display garden was your favorite, and why? I’d love to hear from you!

The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Northwest
and The Pacific Northwest Botanical Artists

I’m very excited to present this art exhibition, opening January 15th at the State Convention Center in downtown Seattle. Four of my pieces will be included! I’ll post more information about the show as I get it. For now you can read about the show here, at the GNSI-NW website.

Edited Jan. 15th:

I got to go see the show today! It’s gorgeous! Over fifty pieces of original artwork lines two sides of a large primary walkway and is available to view whenever the building is open (5am to 12am). There is no admission fee. There are lovely brochures listing every artist and including a thumbnail image of every piece of artwork, too!

Artwalk at Hall Health Center

November 19, 2013, 5:30-7:00pm

4060 NE Stevens Way, University of Washington Campus

Hall Health Center, a part of the University of Washington Medicine network, has a 140-piece art collection spread over three floors. Come to Hall Health’s Artwalk for a chance to see the collection outside of clinic hours and to talk to the artists. Director Mark Shaw will be delivering a presentation on “How Art Can Enhance the Healing Process,” starting at 6:00pm.

The graduates of the 2012-13 Natural Science Illustration program have a hallway of artwork on display. I’ll be there for the entire evening to answer questions about the program and artwork. If you missed the Burke show this is a great chance to see some art that was up over the summer there and to see new pieces, too.

The current Hall Health display will be up for one year.
