2016 Kauaʻi Albatross Cam Map

Our third year with the Cornell Albatross Cam is almost over. I’m celebrating our season’s beautiful new setting with a new ‘trosscam map, available to download as a 1920 x 1080 desktop image and as a printable file suitable for 8.5″ x 11″ paper. These are for personal use only.

As our chicks near fledging we’ll see them less and less on cam. There is a vast, beautiful green field between their nests and the ocean bluffs where they will ultimately launch (Albatross Playground!), and they’re already starting to explore in that direction. Don’t worry if you don’t see them — they’re out adventuring in the neighborhood!

In response to requests for a printed version of this map, I’ve added it as an option on Fine Art America, a print-on-demand service. I’ve been very happy with the quality of their printing and materials. http://fineartamerica.com/featured/2016-kauai-albatross-cam-map-elizabeth-smith.html

Wow, fantastic map! Thanks for doing this. Can you tell me, where is this in relation to the Kilauea Light house? My dad and I went there many times and used to watch the tross out on a long grassy area on the left of the light house when facing the ocean. Such a beautiful area. I know they are also nesting amongst the homes out there too. Such wonderful memories.

    • Thank you! The cam is on private property and the owner wishes it to remain that way, so I’m not free to say anything about the location other than that it is on a bluff near the town of Kilauea. It is indeed a beautiful area!

That’s really beautiful. We love it as we’ve been watching these babies for a couple of months now. Would it be possible to buy a larger print to frame?

    • Thanks! I can make a larger print available. Would you want just the map itself or a version with the nest information?

Thank you so much for this beautiful map. It allows us cam watchers to understand where the babies are wandering off to when we cannot see them.

Thank you!!! Beautiful map, and I’m so pleased that you created it. Now I have an idea of where things are; going to miss this when our “little” trossie babies all finally fledge. It’s such a joy to watch them every day, now that I’m retired. Again, many thanks!!!

  5. This brings a smile to my heart, thank you!

Thank you! Such a lovely memento from my first ‘Tross Cam year! I am planning a trip to Kauai for next March to see next year’s chicks and walkers. I am so looking forward to it. Amazing creatures! Again, thank you.
